how do they get there?
Feb 24 2010, 10:58 PM EST
does anyone know how children in foster care get taken from their biological parents??? Do you know who would come or what they would say or anything like that that a person who is writing a book about it should know??? also, it can only be for 28 days?? and, after their term is over, can foster parents offer to adopt the children??? thanks

You could probably find out quite a bit through online research. Generally CYFS social workers are the only people allowed to come and take a child away from a family, they would normally be notified by someone who was worried about a babies safety. Anyone can tell the police or call CYFS and report their concerns. CYFS will investigate and can choose to 'uplift' a baby or child if they are concerned that the baby, child or young person is in need of care and protection. It is not always physical abuse, there can be lots of other reasons why a child is taken away from their parents and put into foster care. Foster care can be for a lot longer than 28 days and foster parents can adopt foster children and many have. CYFS - http://www.cyf.govt.nz/ and type Foster care in search box at top. http://www.fostercarefederation.org.nz/ http://www.hrs.org.nz/fostercare/ http://www.kiwifamilies.co.nz/Topics/Parenting/Special+Parents/Foster+Parents.html http://www.barnardos.org.nz/SupportServices/FosterCare.asp http://www.dingwall.co.nz/ Do you find this valuable? |

hello, my name is brianna and i am an adopted child, well i was. i got taken off my father when i was about one and a half because my auty didnt think he was caring for me properly and took him to court. she won and i ended up without a father or mother who abandoned me just before the court hearing. i ended up with these people who my father meet in a pub and they adopted me. after that my adopted parents abused me and emmotionally abused me. ever since then i have been moved on to different homes. i am 16 now, ready to leave nz because of the people here.
