Labling youth part 2 Special needs

Hello, I'm Gyro812 an Adult diagnosed with Aspergers. For ten years I have specialized in working with ASD children in the mainstream school area & have worked as a consultant to education and medical Professionals. How I got into this is a long story. Recently on another website I replied to a post which had this question. What material is available which explains ASD to a child's family who has just been diagnosed? From my own experience, I believe there is a huge misconception around Aspergers and other disorders and alot of material doesn't actually really explain these things well. In fact I am working on a book on the very subject. I will explain using Aspergers but this applies to other special needs as well. The problem is the more people try to explain things from written material, the most likely the situation will turn out a lot worse for the individual with ASD as others translate using their own logic and not the ASD persons logic. I can give you a dozen reasons which clearly makes each person with Aspergers or any other disability an individual. If you for example want to explain Aspergers to somebody, learn about this individual and this individuals own unique set of issues There are different degree's of disability, often the person may have co morbid problems or disorders or both and the list goes on and on Once you have studied this person you can then as a guide ,use written literature to try to give a possible explanation once you have associated that with a particular issue with the literature. But be careful some there are several different reasons why I rock and Tap my finger. In the case of Aspergers Literature, the characteristics given cover all of Aspergers in general. No one person has all of the features.. Please don't label them by comparing them with others under the same disorder heading. Everyone is unique but most importantly, have the same degree of intrinsic value .Kind regards Gyro gyro812@gmail.com 2  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?
