Hmm not sure about that. We don't have any specific info about searching 'phones' and is not covered off in any of of our school web pages or the privacy page. Will investigate and let you know

The simple answer is NO. A person cannot take your property without your persmission. You are not required to allow a teacher to look through your phone. If the phone is forcibly removed it is assault and/or theft. However, if you agreed to allow them to look (falsely believing you had to) then there is no issue, as you gave permission. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

This may not be quite right there may be situations where someone has been text bullying, or making threats, or the phone holds evidence of a crime - (a film of a fight for instance) that changes the situation. It is difficult to provide a 'simple' answer as every situation is different. That is why my originial post says I will investigate first. We intend to develop a webpage re this issue in the future Do you find this valuable?

I left school a few years ago - now working as a security advisor, under the "Invasion of privacy" a teacher/staff member of any school can trudge thru ur phone unless they have viable evidence that you have 1) been bullying via txt, 2)as Jeanierich states if you have filmed a crime ect they may look - with your permission. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. I would say, as far as arbitrary searches go, no. That is, if you don't consent.
Then again, if they have good reason to believe that you have incriminating evidence on your phone, for this, I would say yes.
You are after all, looking for constructive opinions until an official page about your issue has been created.
