What is sexual harassment? This is a featured page

  • Sexual harassment occurs if your employer acts towards you in a way that you find offensive. This can include suggestive comments, descriptions of sexual activity, threatening phone calls, or things like offensive calendars or pictures in the workplace. It can go as far as asking for sexual favours in return for better treatment, or a threat if you don't go along with it.
  • If this sort of thing is being done by a co-worker or a customer or client of your employer, tell your employer. They have to do whatever they can to make sure it stops.
  • Sexual harassment is both socially unacceptable and against the law. You do not have to put up with it.
  • If you are a victim of sexual harassment, you have the choice of taking a personal grievance claim to the Employment Relations Authority or making a complaint to the Human Rights Commission.
