A family group conference (often called an FGC) is a family meeting which must be held before the Court can be asked to make decisions about your medium or long term care
[12]. Your parents, grandparents and relatives will be invited to the meeting and you (and your lawyer) have a right to be present[13].

A social worker will tell the family what the problems are that have brought you to the notice of Child, Youth and Family. Members of your family or whanau will be asked to agree on what should happen to sort out these problems and to make sure that you are safe and well cared for in the future. You and your lawyer will be given a copy of any decisions made at the FGC.[14]
