Open adoption is where, after adoption, the child and the birth parents and perhaps members of the birth family - grandparents, aunties, brothers or sisters have ongoing contact. They may keep in touch, exchanging photos and letters and may have regular contact. In this way, you end up living with adoptive parents but you might also see your birth parents either often or not so often depending on the situation.
You will probably also have two sets of grandparents, aunties, uncles and other relatives. Even though you may see two sets of parents, the law treats your adoptive parents as your legal parents with the rights and responsibilities for your care and upbringing. Your birth parents have no legal rights or responsibilities.
