Your caregivers aren’t allowed to give false information on the enrolment form to try and get you into a school with an enrolment scheme. Examples of false information would include saying you lived at a certain address near the school when you did not or claiming you were the brother of anther student when you weren’t or that your
family was catholic when it wasn’t.
If the school Board of Trustees of a state, integrated or Kura Kaupapa Maori school finds out that your parents have given false information, it is allowed to “annul” (withdraw) your enrolment at the end of the year. This means you would have to find a new school for the following year.
If you move outside the school’s home zone after your enrolment is accepted, you are still allowed to attend the same school, as long as you were living in the home zone when you enrolled and your parents gave that address at the time you enrolled.
The law says you are the brother or sister of a student who goes to the school, or who used to a go to the school, if:
- The Ministry of Education writes a letter to the school saying you are
- You have one or both parents in common
- You have a step-parent in common (they have to either be married or living in a de facto relationship)
- You are treated as brother or sister to each other by the adults in your household
If there is a disagreement between your parents and the school Board of Trustees or principal about the information given on the enrolment form, your parents can get advice by contacting one of the organisations listed at the end of this information sheet under “
Other Information and further help”.
