What can I do if my workplace is unsafe? This is a featured page

  • You have the right to a safe workplace. If you think you are likely to get hurt at work call your local Occupational Safety and Health office (OSH). They are listed in the Blue pages of the Telephone Book under “Department of Labour”. OSH can send an inspector to your workplace to investigate your complaint.
  • Employers who do not comply with the standards set in the Health & Safety in Employment Act can be liable for fines ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
  • If the failure of an employer to provide a safe workplace causes an employee to suffer serious harm, the employer can be fined up to $500,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 2 years.
