My Parents are not coping, Does it have to go to Court? This is a featured page

No. If your parents are having problems and cannot look after you properly Child, Youth and Family will try to sort the matter out without the need for a Court hearing. Mostly situations are resolved by Child, Youth and Family or a non governmental welfare agency providing support to your parents by helping them get financial help, counselling or parenting training.

In more serious situations, Child, Youth and Family may arrange a family group conference where members of you family or whanau meet together and work out how to overcome the problems that are putting your health or safety at risk.

Another possibility is a mediation conference. At the mediation conference the Judge helps the family to reach an agreement which will ensure that you are safe and properly cared for in future.[11]
