If I am adopted, how can I find out who my birth parents are?

Your adoptive parents may give you this information, if not you may have to wait until you are 20 when you can write to the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages asking for a copy of your original birth certificate, which may have the name of one or both of your birth parents on it. You can also request counselling to help you to understand your situation and to decide whether you wish to try to make contact.
