If I'm adopted, can I marry someone to whom I'm related by birth? This is a featured page

Although the law treats you in almost every situation as the child of your adoptive parents, you are still treated as the child of your birth parents when it comes to marriage. This means that you can't marry birth parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles or other close relatives. The law against 'incest' (having sex with a relative) applies to both your relatives by adoption and to your relatives by birth.
