I don't want to be adopted. Do I have any say in the matter? This is a featured page

The older you are and the better your understanding of your situation, the greater your say in the matter will be.For example, once you turn 16, the Family Court will not make a parenting order about you unless there are special circumstances that warrant such an order being made. In deciding whether to grant an adoption order the Judge at the Family Court must take your views into account. But if it is your stepparent who wants to adopt you, there will not always be a Social Worker's report and your views may be overlooked. The Court can appoint a lawyer to represent you and make sure your views are put forward.
