I'm having a baby - can my parents make me have it adopted? This is a featured page

However young you are, no one can force you to do something that you don't want to do when it comes to such an important decision. Your child cannot be adopted unless you sign a written consent after you have been fully advised of the effect of adoption. You cannot give a valid consent until your child is 10 days old. There is a lot of professional help available for you when you are making your decision.

As well as keeping your baby there are other options such as fostering and guardianship. Whether you decide to keep your baby or have it adopted, there are also people who can give you advice and support. For information on who can help you, phone YouthLaw or contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau.
