How can these rights help me in New Zeland? This is a featured page

Everyone including children and young people have human rights. Sometimes because children are young, adults ignore children’s rights.

The rights in the Convention belong to you. You can request that your rights are enforced. Contact YouthLaw if you feel your rights are being ignored.
The attitudes of many adults towards the rights of children are starting to change. Children’s voices are beginning to be heard.

At the end of this information sheet there is a list of agencies that can explain your rights under the Convention and help you in enforcing them.

But remember - enforcing your rights should not mean that other people suffer. There needs to be a balancing act.

If your basic rights are not met you cannot be expected to mature into a caring, productive adult who will respect the rights of others
