IMPORTANT: GOOD FAITH The Employment Relations Act requires that the central part of an employment relationship between an employer and an employee is the concept of “good faith”. This means that employers and employees should be fair, reasonable and honest when dealing with one another. This also means that employers and employees cannot act in a way that will, or is likely to, mislead or deceive each other.

Who can I contact if I am unsure of my rights? If unsure contact the Employment Relations Service on 0800 800 863 and s/he can tell you the minimum wage, sick leave and annual leave you are entitled to. There is no charge for this service. Otherwise you can contact a union although you may have to become a member before they will help you. You can also contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau, community law centre, lawyer or YouthLaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki for advice about your minimum entitlements or whether you have become a permanent rather than a casual or fixed term worker. For further help please contact these authorities.
