This is behaviour that will get you arrested!

Have you ever been having some fun in a public place with your friends, when the Police come up and threaten you with arrest?

IF SO, HERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW!!

You may think what you are doing is harmless and not against the law BUT read the following examples and see when actions, which may seem high spirited or having a bit of a laugh, can be a criminal offence.

Here are some cases where a person was charged with disorderly or offensive behaviour. If you were the Judge would you have decided that the actions were criminal?

Disorderly & Offensive - Youthlaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki Wally went to a one-day cricket match, NZ v England. It was a warm day with a big crowd all having a good time enjoying the cricket. Many of the people present were drinking beer from cans. A beer can was thrown in Wally's direction. It did not hit him but he picked it up and threw it towards a big pile of rubbish. Unfortunately the can hit a woman on the face. Wally was promptly arrested.

Disorderly & Offensive - Youthlaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki Owen was at a party with his friends. They had beendrinking most of the evening so were feeling quite merry. The party spilt out onto the front garden. The Police cruised by to see what all the noise was about. Owen saw them go past and gave them the fingers. The Police arrested him.

Disorderly & Offensive - Youthlaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki Keith had been at an outdoor rock concert all day. As the crowds departed Keith, still in the mood for some entertainment, jumped fully clothed into a nearby duck pond. A policeman arrested him.

Brian had spent most of the journey on the inter-island ferry sampling what the bar had to offer. When the ferry was coming into dock he caused the docking to be delayed by jumping over the side. He was arrested.

Hemi lived in a small town where it was quite common to ride a horse to get from place to place. One day he rode his horse on the wrong side of the road causing the traffic to be disrupted. He was arrested.

Jim and his mates were waiting outside a takeaway bar for some munchies. For a bit of fun Jim took the yellow globe down from a pedestrian crossing sign and he and his mates threw rugby passes with it. The globe was not damaged. Jim said that he intended to put it back. It was twilight at the time. A squad car stopped and he was arrested.

One morning when he arrived children from the local Primary School were there having a picnic. Without any clothes on he walked past the children and lay down on his towel. One of the teachers noticed him and called the Police.

Disorderly & Offensive - Youthlaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki Debbie was eating a meal in a restaurant in a small town, The food was terrible and the service sloppy. When she complained the restaurant owner was rude and refused her a refund. In protest she put the money to pay for the meal in the uneaten food and poured gravy on top. The owner called the Police.

how long does a charge like this remain current - or how long does one have to say that one has a conviction?
