Can a teacher send me home if I am not in correct uniform? This is a featured page

No. Unless you attend a private school, it is against the law to send a student home for this reason, though some schools do it. You can only be sent home if you are stood-down or suspended by the Principal and a stand-down or suspension can only be given for continual disobedience or gross misconduct that is a bad example to others or because it is likely you will seriously harm yourself or others.
You should not be stood-down or suspended for failing to wear a uniform if your family is unable to afford it. However, if you often go to school wearing the wrong uniform when your family hasn’t talked about it with the principal, you do risk being stood-down or suspended for continual disobedience that is a harmful example to other students. If you are getting into trouble for wearing incorrect uniform, and it’s not your fault, ask your parents to sort things out with the principal or get help from the school guidance counsellor.

A private school must apply the discipline rules under its discipline policy where there is a dispute about your uniform, and must listen to what you have to say before deciding on what action will be taken.
If you or your family are on a low income or benefit, the Department of Work and Income can give you a $300 advance payment once a year to buy a uniform and equipment for school. In both cases this money will need to be paid back to Work and Income. There is a telephone number for the Department of Work and Incomeat the end of this information sheet, or see our information sheet School Fees and other Costs for more information.
