Can Police take sniffer dogs through the school? This is a featured page

A number of school Boards of Trustees agree with the police to allow drug searches of the whole school property, with police sniffer dogs. As long as the search is for drugs and it is done with a valid (correct) search warrant, the police and their dogs can legally search everyone in the assembly hall, for example, (or anywhere else in the school). This would include you and your personal belongings.

For more information about valid warrants you would need to talk with a lawyer, who would need to find out why the warrant was given to the police. The lawyer will also look into other issues, such as the time when the police chose to action the warrant in order to search your school. If the warrant wasn't valid, the search the police did of you may not be okay.

You could talk to the lawyer about taking a case against the police for searching you unfairly or making a police complaint. If the warrant allows the police to search for weapons, such as a knife instead, the police can search the school property and grounds, but not all the students They can search any individual students whom they think has a weapon, so long as they think the student is likely to harm someone (including himself or herself).

If the police come onto school grounds to do a search without a warrant, they can only search individual students and their belongings if each student agrees to it, or they have reasonable grounds to think each student has drugs, or weapons on himself or herself.
