Can I travel overseas with my caregivers or on a school trip? This is a featured page

You will usually be able to travel on holiday with your caregivers or on a school trip but if an overseas trip is planned the consent of one of your parents will usually be required. Child, Youth and Family will arrange this.

If you do not already have a passport you will need to get one. Your caregivers cannot sign the passport application. If you are under a sole guardianship order the application will have to be signed by a senior officer of Child, Youth and Family. If you are under a shared guardianship order or a custody order your parent or guardian must sign the application[77]. All these formalities will take time so you should tell your social worker as soon as you hear of the plan to travel overseas.
