Can I choose my own lawyer? This is a featured page

You can choose your own lawyer but they will need to be “qualified” to represent you. This will normally mean that they will be based in the area that the case is to be heard; will be able to appear in court when you need them; that they are willing to represent you and that they have a current contract with the Legal Services Agency. Sometimes depending upon how much money you have you may be asked to make a payment to help meet the costs of your legal aid. This can happen whether you chose a lawyer or are given one by the Legal Services Agency.
