Can I be refused enrolment by a state school?

Yes, but only if:
  • the school has an enrolment scheme which you don’t qualify for enrolment under; or
  • you have ever been suspended or expelled from that school (prior to July 1999) or excluded or expelled from that school (after July 1999); or
  • you are excluded or expelled at the moment from another school;
  • the school is registered for a specific purpose, e.g. it is a boys school and you are a girl, or it is a school for the visually impaired and you are hearing impaired etc
If a state school is refusing to enrol you for any other reason it is acting illegally.
