Not only are THESE CHILDREN' DISCRIMINATED' AGAINST,but they are taken advantage of by other children, the broods of certain families favoured by certain teachers&Principal's who exercise no discipline nor care nor responsibility for the health and safety of an already disadvantaged child. In fact, there is one particular primary school which is an absolute disgrace in this area, and a Principal who should be removed immediately from that school! It has no bullying policy. PARENTS REMOVE THEIR
CHILD, as so many have to do and a convenient case built up as to the child's behavior to cover the school which really wants the child out! The school then oulines just how bad he/she is, all attributed to his/her Aspergers label!! ANNE TOLLEY/RODNEY HIDE....a pair of paper-shufflers such as the Special Edication Units, who do nothing whatsover cept safe-gaurd the school!! |

In the Aspergers area I work in Labeling has reached the next level ''Discrimination''. Whats disturbing is that a lot of the cause is via Medical Professionals , Trusts ,Government agencies which are supposed to be helping the children. How this is being done is through associating different bad behaviours demonstrated by a minority, as Aspergers behaviour in general. One example is Lashing out at other children. These people deal with this issue all the time because the child needs intervention But what about the many other Aspergers children who need no intervention at all? who don't lash out (which is the majority of Aspergers children).
Violent behaviour is NOT in the Aspergers definition. It goes against the natural nature of Aspergers. Studies have found no link between Aspergers and violent behaviour .Yet a number of school Principals have attempted to prevent or discourage the enrollment of Aspergers students on the grounds of ASD & violent behaviour'' (with children who have no history at all of this behaviour'') Aspergers is a vast area. There are different degree's, co morbid disorders.(disorders not Aspergers which exist with the Aspergers which - different in each person with a co-morbid disorder), No Aspergers person has all of the characteristics and characteristics vary in types & degree in each person . Each experience difficulties differently to another. There are different personality types, Gender ,Environment, different communication, social emotional, communicational, physical developmental, imagination issues, some are tactile sensitive and some are not , some have audio problems some don't and on and on it goes. Some people say to me that I don't look like an Aspergers person.''What is an Aspergers person supposed to look like? How can you place all these people in the same basket and talk on behalf of all of us. Answer You can't. |

Stigma is increasing especially in the area I work in which is special needs.
But how easy is it to fall into the trap? I am certified on in the like minds project given for those who have disabilities to speak on behalf of people of the same disability who can't speakout in relation to stigma and discrimination because they are too servere to do so. But I got caught out in the stigma trap without even knowing it. I lived on campus at a bible college which I connected to ,but had a house which went with my wifes job managing the childcare centre. The house and property was a proper rental meaning it was ours just like any other rental home . The college had a community of Korean people who could not speak English that well and they had a Church right next door to us in their own Language. We had fruit tree's and anyone on campus could help themselves We only asked that they asked before hand so we knew who was who coming on the property. But Korean people were turning up at five am taking fruit by the bag loads. I was angry when I found out and sent a request to the Korean community to please be considerate and please ask. But it kept on happening so I got angry I went to the property manager and complained. A while later my kids came in and told me that we weren't welcome at the church. I couldn't believe it. A few days later A Korean man did a U turn right in front of me on the main road and I was really starting to dislike Korean people. However the 5 am fruit pickers got caught but were not from campus , I found out also my boys had been in an argument with a Korean boy who told them they weren't welcome. not the churches view, The man which did the U turn could of been Chinese. I just assumed he was Korean because of my attitude at the time. I was completely wrong and guilty of the very thing I speak out against. Stigma is everywhere and has become a great part of our culture. Don't fall into the same trap I did. |
