Yes, if you are a New Zealand citizen or resident and you are between 5 and 19 years old you have the right to a free education at a state school of your choice (there are some limits - for more information on these, see our information sheet School Enrolment).

You may instead go to a “private school” (a school that gets some government funding although it is not part of the sState schooling system) or to an “integrated school” (a private school that decides to join the state school system and gets funding from the government). Private schools charge fees and there is one fee for integrated schools.
