if your walking home, and a police officer pulls you over, and says they are going to arrest you because your smoking and "dont look old enough". is that legal !

It is illegal in New Zealand to sell cigarettes and tobacco products to persons aged under 18. It is also illegal for a person over 18 to give a person under 18 cigarettes or tobacco products in a public place. It is not, however, illegal for a person under 18 to purchase cigarettes (only the shop-owner is prosecuted), and there is no restriction on the possession and consumption of tobacco for those under 18. So the answer to your question is - no you can't be arrested for that.

a young person committed a crime and was told that in two years if they kept out of trouble it would be wiped? is this correct? and also how can they check that they don't have a record for themselves? They are being told to disclose their past at every opportunity, as the Youth Worker involved I have concerns about their future prospects if they keep this practice up. Can you advise best practice on this issue

what if someone got diversion say 5 years ago, and is now attempting to obtain a visa to work in South Korea for one year... is it likely to show up when they check the record.

That depends on a whole lot of things, the age of the tutor, the age of the students, whether the socialising happened by accident or was planned. A university tutor socialising with a uni student is probably OK - in that both are mature and considered adults. An adult tutor wanting to hang out with college age students sounds a bit weird, but again would depend on age fo tutor and maturity. It wouldn't be a conflict of interest but it could be against their code of conduct.
A conflict of interest is about sitting in judgement about things you have an interest in (ie a judge passing sentence on their son/mother/relative) code of conduct issues are about professional behaviour as a teacher, counsellor, doctor, lawyer etc

Crimes Act 1961 states that every one who has sexual connection with a child is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 14 years - while this may be considered a "physical" connection, there are also specific sections which talk of the laws relating to grooming a child for a sexual act, which can include the exposure of children to pornography.

Hi, punishment for driving under the influence of drugs is stated under s 57A in the Land Transport Act 1998:

If a person is convicted of a first or second offence against subsection (1) which is (Driving while impaired and with blood that contains evidence of use of [qualifying drug]
,—
(a) the maximum penalty is imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or a fine not exceeding $4,500; and
(b) the Court must order the person to be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver licence for 6 months or more.

Living with my mum

I live with my dad at the moment but want to go live with my mum. I am 14 and my dad has a care order from about 8 years ago. I am really unhappy at my dads so how can i go live with my mum

Hi, regarding the duration of a custody order:

A custody order continues until you reach the age of 17 years. It will finish earlier if:

the order is discharged by the Family Court;
you get married;
you are adopted by your foster parents or by someone else.

You could also ask for the custody or guardianship order to be cancelled:
-you or your lawyer can ask the Family Court to discharge (cancel) a custody order or guardianship order. Your parents or a close relative can also apply. Before the Court will discharge the order, it must be satisfied that the order is no longer in your best interests. You should ask your lawyer (counsel for the child) for information about this.

You can report the abuse to the police or to CYFS. Get eveidence of the injuries, either take photos or go to a doctor. Tell an adult you trust such as another family member, church leader, youth worker, teacher or counsellor. Most people will have to report the abuse.
