In one of the schools I worked at as a member of the support staff , I went to the defence of a student who was placed on detention after being accused of an offence, which I saw and saw ''clearly'' he was innocent. I went to the teacher and made an appeal on the students behalf and directed the teacher the two culprits who were responsible. The Teacher stood his ground and said that changing his mind would look bad in front of the students and the student was in foster care and had been in trouble with the Police on occasions. He justified his position by saying that the student probably got away with a lot more anyway and so a detention will probably do him some good. I was upset at his decision and especially how he had discriminated against this student. I went to the teachers team leader and explained the situation , but the team leader supported the teachers decision and reasoning. I then spoke to the Dean who again supported the teachers decision and then went to the deputy Principal. This time however I explained before the meeting that I would go higher and the next time would include the students Foster parents , because I'd ring them. .The Deputy principal surprisingly was very supportive of what I had seen and was trying to do ,I don't believe my threat to bring the Foster parents in ,was the reasoning for this. I believe he was genuinely concerned. The teacher ,Team leader and Dean were called to his office and were given a telling off .The student was given a full pardon and was compensated with computer time in which he could play games However the Teacher banned me from ever stepping foot in his class again. My personal advice to youth is to really get to know this website and know your rights. Understand that if you are being mistreated , that there are Adults who do not approve of your rights being violated. Don't be afraid to ask for help and let people know, . You can even ring Youth law for advice. ,
