youth advisory group
The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is a diverse group of young people from all around New Zealand and from all walks of life. Working in conjunction with Youthline, the Youth Advisory Group work closely with Youthlaw to put a youth perspective on issues relating to law that could have effects for young people. The group usually meets four times a year in Auckland with representatives from Youthlaw and Youthline to discuss current issues facing young people.
The group has been around for a number of years, and has been involved in many projects around New Zealand including:
- Writing information from a youth perspective for various organisations and websites
- Creating and continually updating the Urge website which provides advice specific to young people on a number of issues including drugs, sex, alcohol, relationships etc. (www.urge.co.nz)
- Sharing youth opinions on issues relating to health and law
- Other ‘one-off’ projects such as the Youth ’07 youth health survey (in conjunction with the University of Auckland)
From 2011, the YAG also became involved with Youthlaw to support them with their work, and as a result have a lot of new and exciting projects lined up!
